Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information I Wanna Live in Australia collects, why, where it is kept, who it may be shared with, and what you can ask us to do with it. It describes how the website actually works today.
Who operates this website
I Wanna Live in Australia is operated independently by an individual based in Western Australia, Australia. It is not currently operated through a company. For anything to do with privacy — questions, requests or complaints — email hello@iwannaliveinaustralia.com.
What we collect, and when
Enquiries. The only place this website collects personal information about you is the enquiry form on the Contact page. Depending on which enquiry you choose, that may include your name, email address, phone number (optional), the type of enquiry, your message or story, a location, timeframe, and business details if you are enquiring as a business. We also record the date and time, the page you sent it from, and which consents you gave.
Your answers in the planning tools. The "Show me my Australian life" journey, the city matcher, the cost calculator, the checklist and My Australia save your answers in your own browser, on your own device. Those answers are not sent to us and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser data, or using the reset buttons on the site, removes them.
Map interactions. When you click a location on the Australia map, the site records that a click happened and which place it was. No name, email, IP address or account is attached, so it is not personal information.
Accounts. The only accounts on this website are private administrator accounts for managing enquiries. Visitors do not create accounts.
We do not run analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or a newsletter, and we do not buy personal information from anyone.
Why we use it
- To read and reply to your enquiry, and to keep a record of the conversation.
- Where you have specifically ticked the box asking us to, to pass your enquiry to a partner business.
- Where you have specifically given permission, to consider your story for publication.
- To keep the website secure and to prevent spam and abuse.
We do not use your details to send you marketing. If a newsletter is ever added, it will be a separate opt-in that you have to choose — submitting an enquiry will never subscribe you.
Lawful bases (visitors in the UK and the EEA)
Where the UK GDPR applies to you, our lawful bases are: taking steps at your request and our legitimate interest in answering you (replying to and managing your enquiry); your consent (passing your enquiry to a partner business, and considering your story for publication — you can withdraw either at any time); and our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (spam prevention).
Who your information may be shared with
Partner businesses. Your enquiry is only passed to another business if you have ticked the separate, optional box on the form asking us to. Submitting a general enquiry is never treated as permission to distribute your details. We do not sell personal information and we do not circulate it to multiple businesses. Those partners may pay us a referral fee or commission — see the Commercial Disclosure.
Service providers. We use a small number of providers to run the website: Lovable (the platform the website is built and hosted on), Supabase on Amazon Web Services (the database that stores enquiries), Cloudflare (serving the website), the email service that sends us the notification when an enquiry arrives, and Titan Email (the mailbox that receives it). They process information on our instructions in order to provide those services.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Where your information is stored
Enquiries are stored in a managed Postgres database hosted in the Amazon Web Services Asia Pacific (Sydney) region, in Australia. The website itself is served from a global content network, and our platform, email sending and support providers may access or process information from outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union.
If you are in the UK, please be aware that sending us an enquiry means your details reach us in Australia, and that our providers may handle them elsewhere. Australia is not currently recognised by the UK as providing an equivalent level of data protection. We are reviewing the arrangements we have with each provider and will update this page as those are settled. If you would rather not have your details handled this way, please do not use the enquiry form.
How long we keep it
We review enquiries 24 months after they were last active and delete or de-identify anything we no longer need. This is our own internal policy, not a legal requirement. A story you have given permission to publish stays published for as long as it remains relevant and that permission still stands, subject to review. You can ask us to delete your details, or withdraw permission, at any time.
Security
Enquiries are stored in a database protected by row-level security rules so that only a signed-in administrator can read them, over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but if something goes wrong we have a written process for assessing the incident and notifying people and regulators where that is required.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, or stop using it. Where you gave consent — for a partner referral or for your story — you can withdraw that consent at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect anything already done beforehand.
Email hello@iwannaliveinaustralia.com and we will handle your request within the time the law that applies to it requires, and as promptly as we can. We may need to check who you are first.
Cookies and your device
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you across other websites. It stores your own answers from the planning tools in your browser's local storage so your progress is still there when you come back, and it sets a sign-in cookie only for private administrator accounts. Both are needed for those features to work.
Complaints
Please raise anything with us first at hello@iwannaliveinaustralia.com. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au), or, if you are in the UK, to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. Significant changes will be made clear on the website.
